Nikon 300mm f/4 and Monopod

I've been getting out with the Nikon 300mm f/4 more and more for shooting wildlife and really enjoy the images produced by this lens.  When I do my part they are sharp and crisp.  Don't go by what you see here because the images are compressed somewhat.  Be sure to click on them to view the larger size as these need to be seen.

My specific intent was to capture birds in flight (BIF) on this outing as this is great practice and can make for interesting photos.  All the photos shown here were taken from a monopod.  I usually shoot BIF freehand but wanted to try a monopod for the first time.  I found that while it can help with camera shake it's not as quick as freehand.  Nor did I end up with more keepers versus freehand. Regardless, the experience was enjoyable and one I will repeat.

  1. These pictures are awesome! I love the ones of the birds touching down on the water, such great detail! I especially like the first shot - you can see the sun on his beautiful feathers!
