Love Is In the Air (and the SB 700 Speedlight Off-Camera)
Congratulations to our daughter and her husband on the birth of their little girl. All are doing great as they experience a whole other kind of love and wonder.
Knowing the hospital room was dark I brought the Nikon 50mm f/1.4 along for its large aperture. Besides, I really like this lens. I also grabbed the SB 700 flash just in case - and am I glad I did. I had only started to experiment with this a little more recently. One thing I learned just this week was how to disable the built-in camera flash while using the SB 700 off-camera. Some of these shots were taken with the SB 700 mounted on the camera and bouncing light off the ceiling and a few were taken with the SB 700 hand-held with my left hand while shooting with the right or my wife held the flash while I snapped away. While I like bouncing light for a uniform, soft lighting effect I really like the look of the off-camera flash here for the contrast it provided. Good stuff. I'm gonna have fun with this. Let me know what you think.
