It's Raining - Carp

The storms have been pretty constant for the last week here in Ohio and have dumped a lot of rain.  Now that it's the weekend I really wanted to get out of the house and do some shooting.  I choose the Chippewa Trail, having been on it one time before, thinking it might prove interesting.  This trail links up with Buckeye Woods which I frequent quite a bit so I was on somewhat familiar ground.  Little did I know what was in store.  The entire trail was more or less flooded.  I had parked at the South entrance just off Chippewa Rd and began walking North.  Before walking even 30 yards I was in water on the trail and there was a lot of splashing all around - carp everywhere.

This trail runs north and south with a creek on the west of it and wetlands on the east.  So here we have a classic East meets West.  What was really odd was these carp would splash, flip, somersault, and maneuver from one end of the trail to the other where they would find plenty of water and head right back for the trail again.  No fishing pole required today as they were there for the taking - as long as you had a valid fishing license, of course.

Well, this was certainly and interesting start so I was on the lookout for more and different activity.  At one point I heard voices up ahead and looked their way just in time to see two bicyclists scare off a blue heron that was right beside the trail.  Bummer.  And, unfortunately, I didn't see it again.  I was on the lookout for blue herons, turtles, snakes,  birds, - whatever.

I didn't make it near as far up the trail as I wanted because as I was standing in about three inches of water at one point I realized my water-proof boots had sprung a leak and my feet were getting wet and it looked like more rain coming my way, so I started back for the car.  Another bummer.  Oh well, at least I got out for a time and did catch some unusual sites.

    1. Yeah, it was a crazy sight and, NO, I don't want to keep the snake but I'll take their picture when the opportunity arises.

  2. Cool! Did you catch any? Maybe you should have brought your bow to go shooting with.

    1. No, I let them be and I think a simple bucket would have been more appropriate. Plus, shooting them with a camera instead of bow and arrow allows you to see what I saw.
